vibration testing - rental meters
(OP)
Our firm is looking into offering vibration testing for the commissioning of buildings. We have reviewed the materials at the NEBB website and have a decent handle on what goes into the testing procedure. Now we are looking to rent a meter to do some dry runs.
Does anyone here have suggestions as to what meter to use, and if there is one that would be able to be rented for about $500? We would only need it for a few days.
Thanks,
- shane

According to the specs we have read, vibration measurements are to be taken at various points on the pump housing, base, piping and floor. It can be determined in 1/3 octave bands or in 1 Hz increments from 1 - 200 Hz.

Keep in mind that the NEBB S&V Proceedural Standard does not offer any acceptance criteria, so instruments and proceedures can be driven by meeting specified criteria. That document also has technical errors and inconsistancies. For example, no one describes velocity as Meters/sec (mm/sec) or displacement as Meters (micro-meters). If you are renting, then you need to allow time to learn how the instrument and software work, and how to use it. You also need time to learn how to make the measurements in a timely way. Just remember to turn the light on when entering a dark room!!
