NX Multithreading

NX Multithreading

NX Multithreading

(OP)
Just a simple question -   are there any efforts to implement multithreading for multiple cores into NXCAM in the future?

I recognized that many cam suppliers are introducing those higher performance technologies into their software like Delcam, Mastercam, WorkNC and so on.

Anybody working on this item in the development department or any information about plans to do so, when can we expect it??

RE: NX Multithreading

So far I've heard that with NX7 it can assign separate operations to each core. But to take say one large Cavity Mill op split to separate cores...? Not yet. That said, I think when you run Visualize it does multi-thread which helps a lot.

Many times these improvements come based on the requests of the largest (hence the most requested items) installed bases. Example: a large aircraft or auto manufacturer is often tasked with updating hundreds if not thousands of operations as they migrate to new versions of NX or do special automated batch rev changes. For them, it's all about batch processing. Assign multiple ops to multiple cores. Also, I think from a coding aspect, it's the first step to get cam into multi-threading without re-writing major cam code.

Now for the average Joe (like myself), I generate an operation then confirm it's correct. If not, I adjust and try again. Most times I can't move forward till I've proved that operation. It's at rare day that I'm tasked with just generating lots of operations without going through them. But like I said, the large shops need all the batch power they can get. I'd love to see the single Cavity Mill op given multi-threading though.

RE: NX Multithreading

Parallel generation was released in NX 7.0, so that you can generate CAM operations in the background while you continue to work. Multiple cores are utilized.

RE: NX Multithreading

Now does NX still have problems with using the file manipulation commands in tcl when using multiple cores? This has been a problem in the past and I am in that past with v6.0.2.8.

RE: NX Multithreading

For something that specific, I suggest you contact GTAC and have them check the status of your PR number.
