Flarenet Software- Pressure term

Flarenet Software- Pressure term

Flarenet Software- Pressure term

(OP)
am Using Flarenet software for design of an offshore platform vent network, In this software, there is two terms for pressure:

Static back pressure;
Total back pressure;

In Flarenet , I can change pressure term in preference section to Static pressure or total pressure;

---1st I want to know what is the difference between these two terms, (As my guess total pressure is static pressure + velocity head, is it ok?)

---2nd- Which of them I should use as back pressure of PSV's? (generally I saw many projects that they use Total back pressure instead of static back pressure, If my assumption for definition of Total back pressure and Static back pressure is true, is it correct?, I mean It does not lead to not proper selection of type PSV?),

---3rd-- When I change Pressure term in preference section to Total pressure, In tip section data entry section there is not any change therefore only data that I can enter is Static pressure drop of Tip vs Flow. Is this the real data that vendor of tips give to us?

RE: Flarenet Software- Pressure term

Omid1977,

I've never used Flarenet, so the best advice I can give is consult your Flarenet documentation for the definitions of these terms, or call their Technical Support with your questions.

My general understanding is static pressure does not include the velocity head, and total pressure does include the velocity head.

As for what type of pressure, static or total, to use for backpressure on the PSV spec and that id the basis for the Flare Tip data, I have the same basic advice.  Ask the manufacturers.  Go to the source.  They know.

Good luck,
Latexman
