overtuning moment in the ANSYS shell structures

overtuning moment in the ANSYS shell structures

(OP)
Hi, does anybody know how can I evaluate overtuning moment from wind or earthquake in the structure like a silo or tank (shell elem.) with circular base where boundary conditions are apllied to the tank bottom (displacement, rotation)? Reaction list from ANSYS doesn't correspond with theoretical calculation... I don't know where I have done a mistake
thank for your help

RE: overtuning moment in the ANSYS shell structures

I will tell you how I do it for Pressure Vessels
1) If you are interested in getting stress of skirt & skirt to shell junction. Then Model Skirt, Dish End & Some part of first shell course. (length of shell course shall be more than 2.5 SQRT(R*T).
2) From seperate software (PVELite, COPMRESS etc) calculate the shear force & moment at the base.
3) Create one KP at the center of base. Mesh it with mass element of negligible real constants.
4) Connect this node to the top of the shell course using RBE3 elements.
5) Apply Theta & Vert BC to base. Apply theta BC to open end of the shell course. Apply wind & seismic loads on node corresponding to mass elemeent. RBE3 element would distribute & transfer that load to top end of model.
6) Solve and check the reactions. It should match
