2009 student edition, win 7 x64.  Sw will not run, open a file or click desktop icon and I get a server busy message. Option of switch to or retry. "Switch to" opens the windows start menu search.   any ideas?  Tried with windows search and indexing enabled and disabled.

oh, just saw the no-student posting rule.  I'm a mastercam instructor at a community college and use a few sw to mcx examples here and there, thus the student edition on my home pc.

RE: server busy / switch to or retry

Look for other running processes like Excel which may be interfering with the SolidWorks launch.

Try to start SW with as few programs running as possible.

RE: server busy / switch to or retry

I saw behavior like that right after one of my IT gurus 'cleaned up' my computer, by removing every program that he didn't recognize as being essential.  The critical file he removed was a MS runtime that had no apparent reason for being there, and no obvious connection to SW, but SW would not start without it.  Unfortunately, I don't remember which file that was, and I don't work there anymore, or have access to SW.

Thanks for the tips guys, I think I figured it out. I always disable a bunch of startup programs in msconfig. Turning off SWboengine seems to have been the culprit. Re-enabling it solved the issues.

Now I'm having some problems opening files from 06'. Computer just hangs. :(
