I am analyzing a situation where a connecting rod (diameter 50mm), under pretension, is subjected to a distributed load over the entire length of the rod. How does pretension in a connecting rod (tie rod) effect the deflection (bending) characteristics of the rod due to the distributed load applied?

A little more info would be useful.
Is the rod subjected to a uniform load transverse to the axis, or is the load along the axis?
Is creep a design factor?
Material?  Steel?
Does the rod have only noncompressible material in the grip, or is it acting like a sagging rod / stiff cable?

If there is no compression in the rod, stability is not a concern, and the tensioning effect actually reduces out-of-plane bending deflections slightly.  Of course, maximum tensile stress is higher from the combined effect.
