Questions about SW2006 "Distribution Characteristic 101" problem

Questions about SW2006 "Distribution Characteristic 101" problem

(OP)
Here is my problem:

I have been running SolidWorks 2006 SP3.1 for years on my old XP Pro Compaq Desktop without any issues.  I recently bought a new Vista 64 equipped Asus C5570 desktop.  I set it up to be a dual boot system and installed XP Pro on a newly created partition on the HD.  It is a 32bit version of XP and performs flawlessly.  However, when I try to install Solidworks, I keep getting a "Distribution Characteristic 101" dialog box that pops up right after I enter the serial number and click "Next".  I have followed the clean install procedures listed here in a previous discussion and still have the problem.  I have searched the Net for more info on what exactly this issue is and how to resolve it...but have come up empty.  Does anyone here have any experience with this issue and, if so, would you kindly offer suggestions/advice on a fix?  Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

Scott,

Thank you for the thread reference.  Unfortunately, I have tried to install SolidWorks several times following the exact procedure suggested in that discussion without success.  Each time, I have "cleaned" the registry, removed all SW references and folders, rebooted, exited all non essential programs, disconnected from the Net, and disabled AV prior to install.  I still keep getting a "Distribution Characteristic 101" error.  Could a corrupt file or a flaky install disk be causing this?  Any further input would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

RE: Questions about SW2006 "Distribution Characteristic 101" problem

Chris,

Thanks for the thread reference and the suggestion to copy the install CD contents to a folder on the hard drive.  Attempting to copy the contents resulted in several file read errors and ultimately no data transfer (copy) of those particular files.  The majority of files did copy without issue, though, but not enough to get the install to work from the HD.  Trying this copy procedure on a different machine yielded the same results.  So, the install CD is definitely suspect.  A check of the read surface revealed some light scratches.  Will try to do some "scratch repair" and see what happens.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

-Scott

Turbo ... Why not download the installation files from the SolidWorks site?

Oh, sorry,  forget that ... I just realised you are working with SW2006.
