Taper of 1:50

Taper of 1:50

Taper of 1:50

(OP)
Hi friends,

Please help me how to calculate the taper given as 1:50 in a slope is there any method how to calclate the taper.

Thanks in advance!

Srinivas

RE: Taper of 1:50

No, from your drawing there is no way to calculate the minor diameter.

RE: Taper of 1:50

1/50 = (D-d)/L

D = large diameter

d = small diameter

L = length of taper

or
D - d = L/50

RE: Taper of 1:50

Unless you give it as a function of length.blllttt

RE: Taper of 1:50

So, hydtools, what is the length ??

RE: Taper of 1:50

benta, I have no idea.  That's up to the srirou to decide.

Obviously it is a missing piece of information.  That is what the equation illustrates.

RE: Taper of 1:50

Inch taper pins are usually 1:48
Metric taper pins are usually 1:50

So d = D - L/48  inch sizes
   d = D - L/50  metric sizes

L is length of pin

RE: Taper of 1:50

Maybe I'm missing something.  Taper is simply rise over run, so 1:50 means 1 unit vertical to 50 units horizontal.  The angle is then arctan(1/50) = 1.14576 degrees.  If the taper is INCLUSIVE, then divide by two to get the face angle.

For example, I have a premium thread of 3/4 TPF (taper per foot)imperial.  This means 0.75 inch rise for every 12.0 inches of run ON DIAMETER.  The required angle is then 0.5 arctan(0.75/12) = 1.78817 degrees.  This would be the standard half angle cone for LTC threads for oilfield casing.  API listing is 1 degree 47 min.

You don't need diameter, just the understanding if taper is measured inclusive thereof.

RE: Taper of 1:50

If you have the taper rate(1:50) you do not need to find the included angle, just use the ratio to find the unknown diameter for a known length.  1 unit diameter change for 50 units of length.
