seismic joint gap for steel building
seismic joint gap for steel building
(OP)
Hello to everyone.
Does anyone know what is the maximum length/width ratio for a single-storey steel building above which we should place a seismic joint gap to seperate the building into parts ?
If you could give me a code reference i would really appreciate it. I use EC3 and EC8.

RE: seismic joint gap for steel building
I always looked to disconuities, steps, geometry, and differing lateral systems as to where to place any joints.

RE: seismic joint gap for steel building
Whati i mean is whether there is a maximum length/width ratio or generally a maximum length for steel buildigs ?
If we overcome this length we must use a seismic joint gap.
For example a steel building with a width of 10 meters can have a length of 100 meters and be analysed as one part?

Diaphragms will need to be modelled as flexible.
