Standby Generator Installation

Standby Generator Installation

Standby Generator Installation

(OP)
When installing a standby generator outdoors (such as for a remote water well or sewer lift station) is there a code requirement for a site light (such as a pole mounted metal halide or high pressure sodium area light) to illuminate the genset and transfer switch for refueling (diesel) and  maintenance of the equipment?

RE: Standby Generator Installation

Sounds like a good idea whether or not its a code requirement.

I agree...I'll just have an easier time getting it included in the budget if it is required by Code.

Thanks,

RE: Standby Generator Installation

I'm not aware of any NEC requirement.  Another consideration is providing a battery-powered light for troubleshooting the engine when it fails to start.

You may find something in OHSA regarding illumination of workplaces.
