1955 Code

1955 Code

(OP)
I have a code vessel built in 1955.
Material SA-285-C. What was the temperature break for the allowable stress. Was it 650F?

RE: 1955 Code

Yes. For most of carbon steel, the code listed only one allowable stress for -20F thru 650F.

RE: 1955 Code

The temperature break is for time dependent properties above 650 deg F.

RE: 1955 Code

So it would have been built to the 1952 edition of Section VIII which lists 13,750 psi as the basic allowable stress in tension for SA285-C up to 650°F.
