Variable offset

Variable offset

Variable offset

(OP)
Hello,

Is it possible to thicken (or offset or a variable fillet) a surface to generate a varing thickness.
For example, Generate a wedge shape off of a rectangular surface.
I referred to a simple example here, but i am trying to do this on a wavy irregular shaped surface.

Thanks
BT

RE: Variable offset

I need a more real world example of what you want to do to get an idea.  Depending on the complexity of what you want to do it is yes or no.  Try to create an example model or picture.

Probably your best bet would be to dimension a curve to your surface and sweep something along it.

RE: Variable offset

Hi, BluTurtle:

A surface is considered to have 2-degree of freedom.  When you say variable offset, you need to define what such a variable offset is.

If I were you, I would create a second surface based on similar design intent that is used for the 1st surface.  Then create a solid body from them.

Good luck!

RE: Variable offset

Hi, BluTurtle:

Alternatively, you can offset a surface, and then rotate the newly offseted surface body to create a curvy "wedge".  From there, you can create so called "variable" offset if you will.

Best regards,

Thanks for your thoughts. It appears that there is no function to achieve this & there fore should create a new surface.

I could find a little time saver. I offset the original twice. Once with min thickness & another with max thickness of the wedge. Now lofted between the first edge of the (1st offset)to the 2nd edge of the second offset. used the surface edge as a guide curve
