Is necessary to install the relief valve after the volumetric pump?
I've the max punp discharge at 4.2 bar g and the design pressu re of pipe is 10 barg. Is it possible that the pressure arrive at the pressure design

RE: relief valve

Its difficult to assess without more knowledge - but based on your own numbers then you dont need to protect piping with a RV if max pressure is below design pressure.

However, the valve could also be for minimum flow...

Thanks MortenA for your kindness. I think that is not necessary have the minimal flux protection in this case because I have a pump protection.

RE: relief valve

What do you call a volumetric pump? is it a positive-displacement type pump?

If so (i.e. pump curve quasi-vertical), then safety valve should be installed at the pump discharge.

This is because in case of blocked outlet scenario (no flow = no frictionnal pressure drop), the pump developped pressure will increase until it overcomes the pressure drop for which it has been designed. Indeed, this type of pump is not dead-headed like a centrifugal pump.

I propose:
- Set pressure = 10 barg
- Relieving floware can be assumed equal to the rated flowrate of the pump.
