Inserting component attribute

Inserting component attribute

(OP)
Hello,

I have simple question. How can I show components attribute working with assembly in drafting? Take a look into the attached picture: I am in the assembly mode, right click to the desired component, and I can see component's attribute with its title (PAVAD.) and value (RANKENA); type is string. Is it possible to insert this components attribute value being in drafting?

Thanks.

RE: Inserting component attribute

Yes you can.  When you create a note in your Drawing, select the 'Relationships' Category and then select 'Insert Object Attribute' and you need to select the Component itself (not the body in the component) and you will get a list of Attributes which you can then link to.

RE: Inserting component attribute

Is this for use with a parts list?

To hudson888:
Yes, sometimes it is useful to use special partnames in part lists, or just add additional info in assemblys about part (e.g. color, material, serial nr, etc.)

RE: Inserting component attribute

What we usually do is to have attributes at the part file level which we use to populate columns of the parts list. However you can also add attributes at the component level or indeed oestensibly edit existing ones at a higher level of an assembly. You'll need to experiment with this to get a grip on its workings. One aspect is that you are never affecting the attribute in the component itself, but instead creating a duplicate attribute at the higher level which effectively overwrites the original in the context of the assembly. The technique is powerful and flexible, but complex to maintain control over especially if poorly understood. Many users and organisations would blanche at the thought of you're even suggesting its use, simply because it is reasonably difficult for anyone to pick up another user's drawing and figure out why the parts list is behaving differently that you'd ordinarily expect.

To do what most users consider the proper thing it is necessary to chage displayed parts in order to edit the attributes of components.
