Adhesive modelling

(OP)
I have to study a wood airplane structure madeup of boxed beams (ash flange plywood web) with typical ribs with plywood web and spruce caps. This is a three longherons one with no torsion box, that is why ribs work as beams.
Normaly I carry on calculation by hand or worksheet, starting with approximate dimensioning and trying to obtain an acceptable compromise.
In this case I want to see if I am able to model the structure so that I can optimize  the weight better than with hand calculation and cause the structure is highly hyperstatic I would like to have a quicker method.
I have many problems in modelling such a structure but step by step I am finding my way, my question is about the modelling of the glued connections.
What may be the best way?
- a thin layer between two structural elements? (flange and web)
- links between solid to solid  or solid to shell interface?
- other solutions?
thanks
