Painting sewage tank

Painting sewage tank

Painting sewage tank

(OP)
We have been making some repairs on a sevage treatment tank on a vessel. The tank is built of stainlesss steel and the repairs done with tig welding and stainless steel.

The tank contain apart from sanitary waste also sea water.

It is being painted with International Paint 704. 300 Micron thickness.

The problem is the surface preparation before painting.

Being a stainless steel tank, do we need to dry sand blast, or can we wet blast with high pressure water and sand.

Then dry the tank and paint.

Thank you.

RE: Painting sewage tank

You need to check with International for the recommended surface finish for your particular coating.  The may also recommend a primer. make sure you tell them it is a SS tank.

May I ask why you are painting a SS tank?

Thank you for your comment. The reason for painting the tank is du to the fact that there are seawater in the  system. The paint reduces the possibillity of galvanic corrosion. The tank was also painted by the manufacturer.
