Unknown Coupling - HELP!
(OP)
I have attached a picture on the following link:

Has anyone ever seen one of these on a fire system or anywheree else for that matter (approximately 3.5 in. long - looks like an extended length 2 1/2 in. diameter grooved coupling)........I have a customer which wants me to overnight mail one to them so they can repair a leak.
Who makes these and WHERE can I find a supplier willing to overnight mail one (or a replacement from a different manufacturer which will work in it's place) to my customer???
Thanks in advance!!

RE: Unknown Coupling - HELP!
Works kind of like a vic coupling but without the groove, it has teeth inside of it that grip the pipe. They are known to leak. They may be better off trying to tighten it more. Best bet is to just replace it with a more reliable grooved connection.

RE: Unknown Coupling - HELP!
We have a few in odd bastard sizes sizes like 3 1/2 and 5"
You probably won't be able to find one, I think these fall under the category of 'bad idea that looks good on paper'. You might be able to find an old one in some supplier's warehouse but they are probably no longer made.

The bad news is in 1966 Certain-teed merged with Gustin-Bacon Manufacturing Company. In 1974 the Gustin Bacon group was acquired by Aeroquip Corporation.
Then along came the asbestos suits and while Aeroquip is still around it appears Guston Bacon was spun off or died because I can't find fire protection products on their website.
The good news is it's a plain end coupling and is easily replaced with a Victaulic plain lock coupling.

Sizes such as 3 1/2 and 5 are hard to find. If you are a contractor and you some laying around just save them for the right time. Trust me.
