IEC Megger Requirements for Induction Motors?

IEC Megger Requirements for Induction Motors?

IEC Megger Requirements for Induction Motors?

(OP)
Does anyone know the IEC standard that specifies the test voltage level for megger testing induction motors?

RE: IEC Megger Requirements for Induction Motors?

Assuming LV motors I'd go with 500V from each winding to earth and 1000V from winding to winding, which is consistent with the megger tests for a 400V cabling installation. Sorry I can't point to an IEC standard which details this, but that's the test I and probably hundreds of other engineers have applied for years over here.

ScottyUK,

thanks for the input.  We generally are currently using 500v up to 2.99kv rated motors, then 2500v from 3kv to 5.99kv rated motors, and 5000v for 6kv and higher rated.  We generally test to NEMA/IEEE, but have a request for IEC rated motors and I cannot find anything other than a reference to a PI ratio of 2.  Since I am not very familiar with IEC standards, trying to locate all the requirements is proving challenging.

RE: IEC Megger Requirements for Induction Motors?

IEEE, NEMA, ANSI, and NETA all use the same test voltages and specs for motors. I also do not know of anything IEC specific.

RE: IEC Megger Requirements for Induction Motors?

The IEEE standard is IEEE 43-2000. I don't think there is an equivalent IEC standard.

Thank You,Radar. Duke Power
