HSS Moment Connections

HSS Moment Connections

(OP)
I am looking into designing some beam to column moment connections.  The intent is to use HSS sections for the members (beams and columns) of the frames of the lateral force resisting system for the structure.  I am not finding much information for this type of connection in the AISC manual or the Hollow Structural Sections Connections Manual.  Does anyone have a suggestion for a good reference to use?

RE: HSS Moment Connections

I would also recommend the HSS Connections Manual.  I don't remember when it was published (late 1990's).  The 13th Edition superceeds, but the HSS Connections Manual has many helpful examples for various types of connections.  I would see if there is a copy on the net, and I would also review the AISC web site for info on these connections.

RE: HSS Moment Connections

If you are not finding what you need in the HSS Connections Manual, you might try contacting Professor Jeff Packer at the University of Toronto.  He is one of the leading experts in HSS connection design.  He also developed an HSS connection design software package.

I am sure he could point you in the right direction.
