Metric Tap dimensions

Metric Tap dimensions

(OP)
A tip on metric thread specifications on drawings.
I am on NX6, but this should work for many versions earlier.

On a drawing specification such as:
2X M20X1.5

* Dimension to the major diameter (usually dashed circle) of the tap
* Change the diameter symbol to an "M":
   RMC dimension > Style > Radial > Diameter Symbol > User Defined > M > OK
* Only the integer portion of the hole size should be displayed, if not then adjust the setting.
* The other specifications of the tap can be added with appended text.
A recent posting mentions removing (or reducing) the space between the appended text and the dimension, which really helps, but then it will probably be best to add a space after the "2X" (or whatever you may have before the dimension), because that space will be removed too.

I wouldn't doubt that NX is working on a dimension for taps, similar to what they now have for chamfers, but this works nicely for now.
I assume that if the tap size is changed the dimension will become disassociated.

RE: Metric Tap dimensions

I just use insert feature parameters from drafting and then pick the threaded hole from the list.  Works like a charm and its associative.

I thought there was something like that, but I couldn't find it ... thanks.
