vent design

vent design

(OP)
Hi,

I'm working about the integrated counting system design and I wonder how to design my vents for gas and liquid.
Norsok P-001 speaks about maximal velocities in vents equal to mach 0,5, but it creates very large velocities. In practice, are there sizes which are preconized?

RE: vent design

Just the std pipe and valve sizes.  It depends on what you're venting, why you're venting and how much time you have to do it.  Venting a high point, a strainer trap bowl, or a prover tube on a meter system when starting up or changing products shouldn't be needing much more than a 1/2 ", maybe a 1" in some places, possibly a 2" vent, if venting off a large main line.  Anything more than that, you're going to overspeed a turbine, or create some serious disturbence nearby, not something you want to do on a meter system.  Are you venting for some emergency situation, or just normal startup, purging air from lines, clearing interfaces and venting to drains from normal operation scenarios?
