You need a weld-o-let or a branch tee

Like dcasto says,
You need a piece of pipe(weld-in/on)or better a weldolet for a proper weld.
That's not possible with a grinded flange.

Take a look at the backside of a 2 inch flange, think there is room to put a welding rod in there when it is up against a pipe?

I bet ya that if you look at the "branch table" in the piping spec.s it'll show you'll be using a weld-o-let on a 600# line.

Td Williamson Thread O Ring Flanges are designed for this purpose.
