Meaning of Earthworks

Meaning of Earthworks

Meaning of Earthworks

(OP)
To me the word EARTHWORKs means/summarizes all activities related to soil such as:
- LEVELLING AND GRADING
- EXCAVATION
- BACKFILLING
- COMPACTION
- SOIL DISPOSAL

I made this statement because somebody means that earthwork is an activity like compaction, backfilling, excavation etc etc.!?
just want ur opinion on that if whether my interpretation is  correct or not

RE: Meaning of Earthworks

Depends on where you live.  I don't use the word.

RE: Meaning of Earthworks

I'll concur with brandon.  I use "Earthwork" as the title of a section in the specifications dealing with earth moving, etc.

RE: Meaning of Earthworks

- LEVELLING AND GRADING
- EXCAVATION
- BACKFILLING
- COMPACTION
- SOIL DISPOSAL
yes

Plus in UK

- Replacement of topsoil to side slopes/verges etc
- Completion of Subformation
- Completion of Formation
- Placing and compaction of "capping " layer
- Excavation of "Cut-off"(interception) ditches

Cheers,
Chris

RE: Meaning of Earthworks

I'd agree with sixaparrat but I think it is a case of when in Rome

if used in a contractual sense, i'd suggest the term be defined at the beginning of discussions/documents
