Modal Analysis problem

Modal Analysis problem

Modal Analysis problem

(OP)
Hello everyone,

I'm trying to build a modal model, which I will solve and finish. I will then begin a spectrum analysis to apply a vibration.

However to do this I need file and database requirments with the same model which the modal solution was calculated.
So far I only have .db files. I need .MODE, .RST, .LN22, .EMAT, .ESAV, and .FULL files.
So I went into:
file<save as< jobname.db
file<save as< jobname.MODE
file<save as< jobname.RST
file<save as< jobname.LN22
etc.

When I then try to solve my program I get this, "unexpected error(SIG$SEGV) has occurred. ANSYS unable to recover and terminates".

I'm pretty sure this is happening due to saving the .RST, .MODE etc, files. So how do I get these files as database requirements without causing termination of program.

I would appreciate any help available.

RE: Modal Analysis problem

just save the job you do not have to explictly save the others. I suspect that you are probably overwriting the files that you need to do the spectrum analysis

Yeah thats what I was originally doing. I only had a jobname.db file. However when i had applied the vibration signal on the nodes and attempted to solve the spectrum analysis I was getting an error saying there is no .RST file so calcultaion cannot be done. I saved a .RST file but made no difference so went back to the start to try again which is when I got this termination error.

RE: Modal Analysis problem

which solver are you using for the modal analysis? Only a few solvers can be used if you want to perform a subsequent spectrum analysis. You aren't changing the jobname or working directory between the two analysis types are you ?

Thanks for your help so far,
I was using black lancoz but have now changed to supernode, I completed my modal solution and began a spectrum analysis with no problems today but when I solved the the spectrum analyses the program crashed. I have to enter a power spectrum density(psd) vs frequnecy table to complete the vibration signal, if this was incorrect could that cause the error previously mentioned and termination of program?
I havn't changed the jobname throughout the analyses.

Again, many thanks for your help.
