Youngs Modulus in Static Analysis

Youngs Modulus in Static Analysis

Youngs Modulus in Static Analysis

(OP)
Dear all,

I am doing static Analysis of combustion chamber with Temperature as my loading. I considered one special steel as the material. Now, I am in confusion which pysical properties (like Youngs module, Density, Thermal Exp. coeff etc) should I use for the analysis. i.e Properties of the operating temperature or Room temperature properties.

Looking forward for your suggestions!

Thanks a lot!

RE: Youngs Modulus in Static Analysis

Is the analysis for room temperature, operating temperature, both, neither?  Let that guide you through your confusion.

I would like to thank first. Then, At room temperature, Its not required to do Analysis, right? because there won't be any stresses or displacements. I want to find out how it behaves at the operating temperature i.e 1000K.

RE: Youngs Modulus in Static Analysis

I would suggest that if you want to know what happens @ 1000K, then you would need to model that.

Is it required to evaluate @ room temperature?  Only you can answer that.  Is there anything about what goes on at room temperature that requires evaluation?

RE: Youngs Modulus in Static Analysis

At such high temperatures I would imagine a temperature distribution to exist, so you'll need to know the properties of the steel for a range of temperatures around the 1000K value. You should be aware that at around that temperature there is a change in the properties of the steel as the material changes. You should also be aware of the effects of creep and of course that the stress-strain behaviour is generally non-linear. A linear analysis with constant properties wouldn't be good enough in my book.

Thank you very much for very quick responses.

So, I explain in detial to understand my model Completely:

Firstly, I have inner and outer temperatures of my combustion chamber. As well as convection heat transfer coefficients. With this information I have done a Thermal Analysis to find out the temperature distribution overall on the component.

Secondly, I took this teperature distribution as my loading and Material properties(of the room temperature)  in Linear Static Analysis.

So, my question is in the Linear Static Analysis should I consider the material properties of the room temperature or the properties of the temperature distribution.

Thanks a lot for your effors and response. Please also suggest me is it required to do a non-Linear Analysis too.

RE: Youngs Modulus in Static Analysis

I suppose you should use temperature dependent material properties.
