Anyone else run into this problem?
Anyone else run into this problem?
(OP)
I am in the process of filling out all of the application paperwork to take the PE in October. There are two dates that I need to be concerned with. The first is the 4-year anniversary of the issuance of my EIT certificate (because anything turned in prior to that 4 year anniversary will be rejected for not meeting the requirement), and the second is the application deadline. I took, and passed the FE in April of '06, graduated (and have been working) since May '06, but my EIT certificate isn't dated until 6/29/06.
Here's the problem. The 4-year anniversay is 6/29/10, and the application deadline is 7/1/10. That leaves me literally a 3 day window to have my information to the state board to be able to take the exam. That seems a little ridiculous.
Has anyone else run into this? What have you done? I'm most concerned about my college transcripts because I have no control over when they're sent out. I can't have them there too early or they'll be rejected.......... too late and I miss the deadline.

You might want to check with your state board though as your state could be different.

I asked about that. The experience has to be 4 years, and I can only count on time up to the point where I fill out the paper and send it in.
Kirby-
You're right, it's just for this specific test, but the next test is in 6 months. I'm chomping at the bit to take this exam, and really don't want to wait 6 months because of a timing problem. Additionally, those 6 months will mean that I have to take the new SE test. I am not concerned about taking the new test, but the cost is supposed to be approximately 4x what the cost of the current SE1 test.

My PE application deadline was 3 years 11 months a 22 days after my experience started, but they allowed me to take it even though the "stated" requirement was 4 years expereience from date of application, not date of exam as mqsquared says (depnds on the jurisdiction). You're in a 3 day better position and should be OK

It's pretty much the same way in Florida. The graduation dates are typically early May and since the deadline for application is late April it forces you to wait another 6 months to take the test.
I looked at it and just waited until the next test, which meant I had five years experience before I took it.
I know two people who graduated at the same time as me who applied in April, technically a week early.
One of them was accepted to take the test and ended up getting his license 6 months before me.
The other was rejected. They seemed to have the same qualifications to me, so it didn't make much sense.
The only way you can find out is to apply, but then you're out the money.
One thing that may help is to put any related experience that you can on the application in hopes that it will count a little.

Or, to ease your mind, send them a letter that you are applying and that it is likely that your transcipts will precede your actual application due to timing concerns. Not a problem, I'm certain.
Worry more about the actual exam! :)

For my PE exam application, I had the results from PA sent to the state board. They accepted the exam results.

I say generally because in 07 when I applied (and possibly still) up to three months of time before graduation could be counted toward your experience record. My three and half years of part time work during school allowed me to apply for the exam three years and ten months after graduation, when using the three and a half years of internship to cover two months and cnsider my first year as 100% applicable time rather than assuming some portion of that year is in training.
Did you work prior to graduation? If you did, including that time can help give context as to tyour level of engineering ability in the first year.
Good luck!
