6 sigma

6 sigma

(OP)
is this widely used in industry now? i know ge uses it. how about others? is it the new "cqi" of the early 90's?......

RE: 6 sigma

It is ancient history. Yes it is widely used, and if you look past the hype, is as useful as the previous techniques on which it is based. Used by a sensible person they are good, used inappropriately, not so much. If you want general  background on it then check out the wiki article.

RE: 6 sigma

And if you want serious respect among your peers, be sure to have "Six Sigma Back Belt" on your business cards and in your email sig.

RE: 6 sigma

It always amuses me that Audi use "Vorsprung Durch Technik" in their adverts, whereas Frod don't mention "Six Sigma" in theirs.  Doesn't sound quite so sexy.

RE: 6 sigma

Most of my peers have a certificate on their desk from passing a six sigma green belt test in 2004.  I have only been here a couple of years but no one even talks about it.  Some of our quality guys are black belts and may still use some of the techniques.
