Cables

Cables

(OP)
Hi guys,
Please can someone tell me the type of cables S.A considers equivalent to Type MC cables?

Also, what has to be considered in using a single core cable?

RE: Cables

S.A- South Africa, Saudi Arabia? MC Cables? Is he a Rapper?
Please post a proper question.

RE: Cables

Type MC cable is a NEC designation, so that part makes sense to me, but Standards Association?

RE: Cables

Single core:
It depends; Primarily induced voltages due to uncancelled magnetic fields and the issues that these induced voltages cause.
The issues may include, Armour voltages, armour currents, armor transpositions, non ferrous and or non metallic gland plates, derating due to heating of the armour, magnetic encirclement, induced currents and heating in adjacent ferrous objects. Some of these issues may be ignored at lower currents and some issues are mutually exclusive. So---  It depends.

RE: Cables

If SA cable is SWA [Steel Wire Armored] cable and MC it is METAL-CLAD CABLE as per NEC Article 334 then it is possible to use SWA instead of MC Cable in certain conditions. It is not the same cable never-the-less both are armored but each in different way-SWA is steel wire
armored and MC is enclosed in metallic sheath of interlocking tape-usually corrugated.

I Love the Engineering Fraternity. We do detailed analysis on the suspicion as to what accronym SA is...
