INCLUDE IN PARTS LIST - NOT BALLOONED

INCLUDE IN PARTS LIST - NOT BALLOONED

INCLUDE IN PARTS LIST - NOT BALLOONED

(OP)
Is there a way for an assembly component to be included in the parts list but not be ballooned during to Auto Balloon function?
I'm wanting fasteners to be listed but not ballooned.

Thanks,
James

RE: INCLUDE IN PARTS LIST - NOT BALLOONED

Perhaps you can auto-balloon to start with, and then just delete the ones that you don't want, which should break the auto-balloon behaviour for the affected view in the future.

Thanks for your response.
I have deleted them in the past for lack of a better way.
Some of these die designs have a LOT of fasteners so I'd like to figure out a way for this to be handled by UG for time sake & to prevent human error (me missing some of them).
I don't understand when you say "delete the ones that you don't want, which should break the auto-balloon behavior for the affected view in the future", are you saying UG will remember not balloon those parts?

Thanks,
James

RE: INCLUDE IN PARTS LIST - NOT BALLOONED

I'm not sure how my system is actually set up compared with yours in this regard, but I find that views do not generally auto-balloon unless I force that behaviour. To invoke it I might select a view and with MB3 bring up the pop-up and find the Autoballoon button there, or by using a similar button that is available under MB3 when the Parts List is selected. Once I delete automatically created balloons they don't reappear. I can't see anything likely to influence this behaviour in the Customer Defaults either.

The only downside may be that as new components are added they can't be auto ballooned unless you're prepared to go through the whole deletion process again. My thoughts in general are that Auto-ballooning in NX isn't up to all that much as I still find you need to manually position the balloons and that I frequently get better result by manually adding them using empty ID Symbols as the arrow heads are more likely to be sited suitably.

I use the part attribute PLIST_IGNORE_MEMBER to omit other components from the part list. I guess I'll do the same for fasteners. I'd like to include them in the BOM but rather not have to delete balloons every time & take the chance of forgetting if I refresh the balloons later on. It's just a lot of fasteners to add that attribute to.

Thanks Hudson.

RE: INCLUDE IN PARTS LIST - NOT BALLOONED

Doesn't PLIST_IGNORE_MEMBER change the inclusion of the fasteners within the parts list. That way your quantities would be incorrect! I wouldn't find that solution acceptable just because the guy detailing the thing can't be bothered.

I do most of mine manually and when I do take short cuts it is to balloon only the major components taking the view that given a hand full of the correct nuts and bolts that can't easily be installed in the wrong drilled or tapped holes there is very little to go wrong.

I think your right when you say "Doesn't PLIST_IGNORE_MEMBER change the inclusion of the fasteners within the parts list".
By adding "PLIST_IGNORE_MEMBER" to ALL my fasteners (which will be a big hassle) they wont be ballooned because their not in the Parts List. So if none of them are in the Parts List their quantities wont be an issue, not for me at least.
I still wish there was a way to have the Auto Balloon function ignore certain components.
Or maybe some kind of code which would remove certain balloons after their placed according to some part name or attribute?

Thanks,
James
