Solid Edge error message

Solid Edge error message

(OP)
I've used Solid Edge since V9. My company stopped paying for updates and technical support a couple of years ago so I'm working in V20. I'm getting frustrated by an error that seems to be getting more frequent. I produce a part, click to save and a message pops up saying "can't find file". I can't save or save as. I loose all the work with the file disappearing from my PC.
I end up having to reboot SE and recreate the part.
Any ideas whats going on?

RE: Solid Edge error message

Hi, can you expand on your error message?
Are you getting a mesage that says something like - you may not have write access to the file or folder? (when clearly you do).

If so it could be that the data for the part that is held in memory between saves has become corrupt in some way. There could be various reasons for this around the OS / Memory and othe hardware.

How often do you tend to leave it between saves? It can pay to save more often as you system then has less data to keep in memory and as such less chance for it to become corrupt.

Hi,

The program doesn't allow me to save or use the save as function. I've got into habit of saving every couple of minutes.
Have uploaded pdf to ENGINEERG.com showing error messages(taken as print screen)

thanks for the help.

RE: Solid Edge error message

Thanks David,

I see what you mean. This is definately different to the error I was refering to..... A real strange one and something I have not got an immediate answer to.

A couple of questions though.

1, Are you saving to the local machine or the network when this error happens?
2, Are there any other workstations that see the problem?
3, If you create a brand new user on your workstation, then log in as that user, do you see the problem? (I have seen a  corrupt windows profile cause no end of problems for SE).

It may also be worth running a windows update. Again I have seen this cure the odd problem or two.

If I can think of anything else i'll let you know.

Jon

RE: Solid Edge error message

Hi,

you can expect this message "can't find file" when you don't
have write access to the folder the file should be saved into.
I never encountered the second message.
Just a guess: any virus checker active? A \temp folder filled
up with garbage might give strange errors, so you should
cleanup this one frequently

Hi
I do a full virus check every evening and frequent quick scans during the day if I've been using Internet. I changed from Bullguard to Kaspersky a few months ago and did wonder if that could have had some effect but can't see anything when I Googled it. The other thing I've done is switch from backing on a local hard disc to now using Carbonite online backup. It doesn't seem to make any difference to the problem if I disable Carbonite.

Have created a new user profile as suggested by SolidMaster and will let you know later today if the problem has gone.
Thanks again
