low chloride markers and stainless

low chloride markers and stainless

(OP)
here is a question for you guys that do a lot of stainless.  My guys were using sharpie markers on our stainless vessels and the coatings guys are telling me they are having trouble removing it.  Maybe it's etching into the stainless?   Is it to do with the cloride in the Sharpies?  Will using a low chloride marker aleviate this problem?

Any other suggestions for marking?

Thanks.

RE: low chloride markers and stainless

How about a piece of old fasioned chalk?

RE: low chloride markers and stainless

some customer's specs allow only for the use of low chloride markers or anything else that comes in contact with stainless.

NCRs are a pain compared to the cost of paying attention to low/no chloride content contacting stainless.

The to your maker removal problem a good shot vodka will do.  Or if you want to drink the vodka, acetone will do the job.
The marker companies do have marker removing fluid.

The use of chalk as posted above carries some caveats in that some of the lumber marking chalks have very high chlorides and some high sulphur.  There is a metal marking chalk or you might want to go the old fashion way and use soapstone.

Here are some Low Chloride Markers as well as some Low Sulphur ones for Nickel Alloys.  A lot of the Low Chloride markers are also Low Sulphur.
