Fix dangling dimensions in a drawing

Fix dangling dimensions in a drawing

Fix dangling dimensions in a drawing

(OP)
Hi,
When we delete feature & recreate it, the dimensions in the drawing will become dangle (dangling dimension)
I know its very easy to reattch it to new edges. Just select the dim, click & drag the red dots to new edges. This fixes it. Good.
But this doesn't work on diameter & radius dimensions. Many times I have lot of custom annotations attached to the dim & its a pain to recreate them.

Any suggestions.

Thanks
BT

RE: Fix dangling dimensions in a drawing

BT,
You are correct that you can't re-attach diameter and radius dimensions.
But, you should be able to copy/paste any of your notes from one Dimension to another.

Select the old dimension.
Highlight everything in the 'Dimension Text' Box (including all of your notes and modifications)
hit Cntrl+C to copy everything (or Edit->Copy)

Create a new dimension on the new circle.
Highlight everything in the 'Dimension Text' Box.
hit Cntrl+V to paste the information. (or Edit->Paste)

The new dimension should now show the same information and modifications you had made to the original.

Not a one-click solution, but you don't have to re-create everything.

Hope this helps.

Rather than deleting a feature and recreating it, if you simply edit the controlling dimensions, you dimensions will not detach.  Is this an option?  Without seeing exactly what you are doing, it is hard to know if this is an option.

Yes Shaggy, but it doesn't seem to work with radial or diameter dimensions - it works fine with linear dimensions.

Really?  Like holes, rounds, and fillets?  If you are able to change the dimension in the sketch of the part, the drawing should update automatically.  I have never seen the issue you describe.

What sort of feature is this?  A split line on a surface perhaps?
