Curvature Matching in NX Cam

Curvature Matching in NX Cam

(OP)
Hi all,

I'be been trying to find information on the Curvature Matching module in NX, NX30407.
The pricebook gives a brief explanantion of what it is but it's not too clear.
What advantages does it give over standard multi-axis modules and how does it work?

Thanks in advance
Speedee

I would recommend contacting your customer service rep or GTAC.  They could explain it and maybe give you a temp license to try it out for a while.

RE: Curvature Matching in NX Cam

Imagine cutting a curved surface with a flat end mill. The system will tilt the tool axis forward, raising the trailing cutting edge, to match the curvature of the part. On a flat or convex surface, the tool would be normal to the part, or you may tilt it forward a couple degrees. But in concave areas, the tool axis tilts further to match the surface.

With this, you can use a much larger stepover than a ball mill, and get a much better finish, since the scallops are almost flat.

To learn more, search for "Optimized to Drive" in the Variable Axis Surface Cointouring help, or request a trial license.
