Part Saved as a Part Imports as an Asssmly?????????

Part Saved as a Part Imports as an Asssmly?????????

Part Saved as a Part Imports as an Asssmly?????????

(OP)
Good afternoon, I just made a part and saved it as an .sldprt, which is a part.  In our other plant they have Gibb's CAM, which is a Gold VAR for SW.  They just tried, several times, to import my part to Gibb's, but when it arrives it is a .sldasm, which is an assembly and totally unusable to Gibb's.  I saw this happen and could not beleave my eyes.  We are using SW2009 sp4.0, currently, so has anyone ever heard of this happening?  What could have caused this?  Any cures?  Thanks you in advance for any assistance in this wierd problem.

RE: Part Saved as a Part Imports as an Asssmly?????????

I have seen this with parts that have multi bodies, then saved as a parasolid.

Thanks for the response Chris, but this is one solid part.  To make it worse it was saved as a Solid Works part, .sldprt.  Makes no sense to me, but I saw it happen.

RE: Part Saved as a Part Imports as an Asssmly?????????

Perhaps Gibbs cannot handle multibody parts, and automatically creates assemblies out of them?

Thanks for the response handleman, but it is one body and I rechecked that.  I can understand what you are sayting that if it were 2 parts maybe that is what is happening, but unfortunately it is 1 part only.  Thanks.

Can you post the file in question?

My Guess is the file is corrupted. I would parasolid it out and bring it back in and save it and send it to Gibbs then and see if the problem reoccurs.

Thanks Scott, but I tald those people to send it to Gibbs adn let them figure it out.  FYI, it is a brand new model and drawing justmade yesterday.  I did foreward it to the VAR we bought SW from and they could not see anything wrong. So I will assume, which you know what that means, that they check for everything possible.
