How to export UG assemblies in STEP

How to export UG assemblies in STEP

How to export UG assemblies in STEP

(OP)
I have been getting step files of UG assemblies.  When I import these files into Hypermesh, I don't get the assembly structure, or the original part name.  The assembly structure is flat, and the part names are "solid1" "solid2", etc.

What is the best process for exporting Step files of UG assemblies so that the assembly structure and file names in are maintained?

Thanks.

RE: How to export UG assemblies in STEP

Are you using step 203 or 214? I have heard that 214 is better at handling assemblies.

Thanks.  I'll have them try 214.  Are there any other steps to take to avoid the flat file structure and to get the real file names?

RE: How to export UG assemblies in STEP

I did a small assembly in STEP 214 and it worked fine, with the names as they should be in the assembly tree.. While exporting check the "Advanced" tab - I have "Long name" toggled on, and in the "Data to Export" tab I have "Solids" and "Product Data" toggled on.

Sometimes I like using their external translator. If you are exporting a large assembly it will not tie up your NX session, and you will be able to do something else while the translation is running. You can also do a batch of files. The settings are easy to change in the pull-downs.

To Get there in WINDOWS:
START > PROGRAMS > UGS UGNX_ > TRANSLATORS > STEP214 > EXPORT
