Directions for ASME Div1 Custom Bolted Head

Directions for ASME Div1 Custom Bolted Head

Directions for ASME Div1 Custom Bolted Head

(OP)
Background:
I am designing an ASME Div.1, -20 to 100, MAWP 150 psi, water filter.  It is constructed of 42" dia pipe (~26 long), with a welded head on the bottom, 10" inlets and 10" outlet come thru the bottom, the top head is constructed of a head welded into a ring and is made for easy removal. A matching ring is welded around the top of the cylinder so the two "belts" meet together at the open end. The top head is held in place by swing bolts (with attachments welded to the rings)- so one can simply loosen the nuts, flip the nut and bolt free, remove the head, and clean out the filter units.

Question:
Where can I find the rules for this in Div. 1?

If I wished to design a custom method for holding the top head on - such as a clamp that squeezed the head to the cylinder together - what section would (if any) allow me to do this?

There are many examples of this on google images by typing "ASME water filters".

Can someone please help me?

RE: Directions for ASME Div1 Custom Bolted Head

Bolted dished covers are in App.1 (but you already knew that?)
Clamp connections are in App.24
For slotted holes you need to look at the definition of A in App.2
And for swing bolts you need to provide a machined receptacle to hold the nut into position, but don't remember where this is specified in the code.

prex,

Thanks for the help.  Now....where are those attachments located?  This is like "where's waldo".

prex - I found the section - Appendix 2 under the scope it addresses the "other" bolting methods and the use of rings instead of standard hubs/flanges.
thanks again for your help.

Exactly.  I see that UG-35.2 (and non-mandatory FF) addresses this type of closure, but there is not a lot of guidance as compared to the other design requirements.
