Sludge Thickener Bypass

Sludge Thickener Bypass

Sludge Thickener Bypass

(OP)
We have a gravity sludge thickener that pulls solids from a transfer line between two aeration basins. The thickener needs to be worked on and has no redundancy, therefore needs to be bypassed.

The sludge thickener currently pulls in approximately 300K GPD and sends off 100K GPD of thickened sludge while returning 200K GPD of decant back to the headworks.

What type of system would you recommend to bypass this. The plant is operating at near capacity and can only hold the solids off for one day until it reaches a critical point.

Any tips?

RE: Sludge Thickener Bypass

You probably can go with a mobile sludge dewatering system from a firm such as Synagro. These firms are set up for temporary operations.

I assume that you are working with municipal wastewater.

Mobile units are available for emergency stabilization needs, including pond or digester cleanouts

Good idea-- we have actually used synagro in the past and I didnt even think of them.
