SOLIDWORKS

SOLIDWORKS

SOLIDWORKS

(OP)
Hi friends,

I am new to Solidworks but have been using Pro/E extensively. So obviously while modelling, I think like how would I do that thing in Pro/E & try to find that functionality in Solidworks.
I am trying to find the following analogous functionalities in Solidworks:
1. To create a surface with "CAPPED ENDS".
2. To create a protrusion using "USE QUILT" option.
3. To create datum planes "ON THE FLY".

Thanks

RE: SOLIDWORKS

Hi,

I use Pro/E and SW and I think I can help you.

1. There isn´t any funcionality in SW like "CAPPED ENDS" in Pro/E. You have to design another surface to cap the empty area.

2. In SW, go to "Insert" menu, "Base" or "Boss" and click in "Thicken". If you select an open surface, you just have the option to specify the thickeness and the side of it, but if you select a closed surface, the option "Created solid enclosed from volume" appear. If you check this option you'll just "fill" the surface with solid volume.

3. I don´t know this kind of option to create datum planes. Is it in an earlier version of Pro/E? I just know the 2001 version.

I hope it can helps.

Thanks MHendler,

1.   While creating a feature in Pro/E 2001, we might need to create a sketching plane which is not previously present and has to be created specifically for that feature and might not be required to be reffered by any subsequent feature. These datum planes do not appear in the model tree as they are made during the feature creation (ON THE FLY).

But in Solidworks, I have to create a proper datum plane to act as sketching plane for that feature. The design tree becomes full of planes.

2.   We have a facility of sketching "Datum Curves" in Pro/E, parts of which can be used for different feature creation later. But in Solidworks, I need to create sketches specific for a feature creation, which might not be the availability always.

Kindly give me your mail id.

RE: SOLIDWORKS

Amish,

You're right, there´s no funcionality in SW like the creation of datum planes "on the fly", you have to create planes like the others.

About the curves, you can create a "master" sketch and when you want to re-use some parts of the curve, you just use the "Convert Entities" tool in a new sketch (this tool is like "Use Edge" in Pro/E). I think it can helps you.

I´m from Brazil and I work in a SW and Pro/E reseller.

Be free to ask me more questions about these softwares. If I can help you, I will.

MHendler
