Can Adams simulate this?

Can Adams simulate this?

(OP)
I am totally new to Adams:

If a pair of regular spur gears are placed such that the actual center distance is a bit longer or shorter than the sum of the two pitch radii, and the driving gear is spinning at a constant speed, can Adams simulate the motion of the gears?

Assuming the spinning is steady and slow, so if the driven gear at a certain moment is not in touch with the driving gear, it will just stop until being pushed again.

Thanks for an answer or any hint. Let me know if I didn't describe clear enough.

RE: Can Adams simulate this?

Yes, in theory. You'll need to use the IMPACT version of CONTACT. If you are very lucky there might even be a tutorial on it.

But having said all that it will not be easy to set up, and will probably crash at every opportunity. It would be a good idea to chat to MSC support. The response of the system will change depending on the effective elasticity of the gear teeth, you might want to explicitly model that.

You might well be better off using a non linear FEA instead.
