cold forming of shell plates

cold forming of shell plates

cold forming of shell plates

(OP)
Is it acceptable to form a 100mm thckness shell plate of a HP drum by cold forming(rolling) process?
Design code is ASME SecI

RE: cold forming of shell plates

Yes. There are manufacturers which possess plate rolls capable cold forming 100 mm plate. Also more than likely the Drum will be subject to PWHT in a furnace by the manufacturer. This will stress relieve the cold forming stresses in the shell as well as the Code mandated stress relief of the welds.

In cold forming ,some grain deformation will happen. Does this require normalizing process or just stress relieving is enough?
