Cannot create split face in Simulation assembly

Cannot create split face in Simulation assembly

Cannot create split face in Simulation assembly

(OP)
Hello all...

x64 SW2009 SP4.1

I have an assembly that I am performing a Simulation study on.  On one of the components I have created a sketched circle that I would like to apply a fixed constraint to.  When I try to create the constraint in the Simulation menu using 'Fixtures/Loads/Fixtures' the fixture creation form comes up with two tabs, Type and Split.  I select the 'Split' tab and it asks me to select a sketch and a face to split.  When I select the sketch and face and hit 'Create Split' SW comes back with a message saying 'The object invoked has disconnected from its clients'.  The split region is not being created at either the part or assy level.  I used to do this all the time with Cosmos and it worked fine, but this is the first time I've tried it since Cosmos was rolled into SW with the new Simulation name.

I tried this same process on a single part and it works fine.

Has anyone else seen this behavior?  Thanks in advance for any help...

Ed

RE: Cannot create split face in Simulation assembly

I always split faces for FEA at the part level.  I had no idea it was even possible at the assembly level.

Hi Tick -

I did create the sketch at the part level, and I can select it, but SW just returns the error message I cited.

There is a 'sketch' button to create it on the fly in the form for picking the sketched feature, but it's ghosted out for me.
