PROGRAMMABLE AC/DC ELECTRONIC LOAD MODEL 63800 SERIES

PROGRAMMABLE AC/DC ELECTRONIC LOAD MODEL 63800 SERIES

PROGRAMMABLE AC/DC ELECTRONIC LOAD MODEL 63800 SERIES

Does anyone have a clue on how to generate a 5th and other harmonic currents with the above mentioned current generator? The user's manuals and technical support have not been of great help. The intent is to generate the 5th and other harmonic currents to test how a given power meter performs in an electrical power system (120/240 Volt service) with such said harmonics.

It looks like it can simulate various combinations of rectifiers and passive components which you could use to produce various harmonics, but probably not individual harmonics.

RE: PROGRAMMABLE AC/DC ELECTRONIC LOAD MODEL 63800 SERIES

Are you running a DC load and trying to program a 300 Hz sinusoidal load (assuming 60 Hz) with it?

You mention current generator, this test device is labeled as a load and will not source 300 Hz current.

Can it only be programmed for constant power or constant resistance?  That's the usual function of these loads.

We use Dynaloads at my workplace but i don't recall any of the technicians trying to work with harmonics on it.

Jim

If it is an Instrument Transformer metering application, you may consider a modern relay test set.  Most are quite capable of generating a wide variety of voltage and current harmonics.

The intent of utilizing the above mentioned electrical voltage/current generator is to generate a voltage/current source with a multitude of harmonic components to test digital meters(based on standard IEC 62053-21). However, It doesn't appear that such voltage generator has the ability to do so. The electric meters are being tested so we may determine if they are acceptable for utilization. They will be utilized for metering power consumption by residential and commercial electrical loads. Does anyone know of a way draw harmonic (type of load) currents from a 120/240 3w system? Please advice

A resistor load bank and a high power arbitrary waveform generator from (e.g.) Pacific Power?
