how to calculate the seismic load of CMU screen wall

how to calculate the seismic load of CMU screen wall

how to calculate the seismic load of CMU screen wall

(OP)
I have a 12" CMU wall (solid grouted) with 13.3' high. it is a screen wall. the verical reinforcement is #6 @ 18" OC

I have calcualted the SDs=0.61, SD1=0.58 (design spectral response).

How to calculate lateral seismic load?

Thanks

RE: how to calculate the seismic load of CMU screen wall

Are you sure of the reinforcing?  Usually CMU reinforcing is on an 8" module.  I would expect 16" on center.

Just use the pertinent IBC equations for the lateral seismic forces.

Agree with Mike on the spacing-See ASCE 13.3

RE: how to calculate the seismic load of CMU screen wall

See 12.11.1 of ASCE 7-05.  Apply force indicated as a lateral force at center of wall mass (0.4SdsI).

yes. it is 16" OC.

in the formula 0.4SDsI, is that I can be same as the adjacent building.

Thanks.

RE: how to calculate the seismic load of CMU screen wall

When I do seismic calcs on a cantilevered fire wall or screen wall, I break the wall into 4 quadrants of height and run the numbers as a 4 story building. I beleive this is conservative but it helps in the p-delta calc and the top heavy nature of a tall cantilevered wall.
