3 phase ac motor with four slip rings?

3 phase ac motor with four slip rings?

3 phase ac motor with four slip rings?

(OP)
I have come accross a 3 phase motor that has four slip rings on the rotor which i have never seen before. I originally thought that it was k, l, m and a neutral point ring but on closer inspection i found that there was a circuit between the two inner rings and and a seperate circuit between the two outer rings showing it isn't a neutral point... I was wondering if anyone had any information on how this rotor/ motor operates this way?

RE: 3 phase ac motor with four slip rings?

It's probably a synchronous induction motor where two phases are shorted and are applied + and the third phase with 2 sliprings acting as the return -. I've seen some AEG motors like that.

i agree with Edison, some european motor models have same config the way you describe.  Yet, it is better to post the nameplate..else the rest will be a guess.

It is indeed a synchronous induction motor from english electric, 1400H.P. From having a brief look at it its seems that the third phase is just open circuit possibly used for balancing purposes but im not sure?
