Snapping an assembly view to grid

Snapping an assembly view to grid

Snapping an assembly view to grid

(OP)
Hi all,

By turning on the grid and checking the relevant boxes, we can have dimensions / annotation snapping neatly to consistent spacing.

BUT when placing the *base* assembly view, it seems that this will not obey the snaps. Which is odd and VERY annoying!

Any opinions chaps?

Cheers,

Anthony

I meant base drawing view (regardless whether it's an assembly or not).

RE: Snapping an assembly view to grid

There is no 'snap point' for a drawing view, and I can't think why you would ever need one. Just place the view where you want it.
However, once placed, you can select geometry within the view and then locate that to a grid point.
Don't forget that views folded from other views are automatically aligned.

Hi Beachcomber,

If one is a bit of a perfectionist (mad OCD person), it's important to be able to place the *base* part on snaps, just as any annotation is snappable. Often I have wanted to annotate a part in a very symmetric fashion, and it annoys me that I can't place the base part with the same degree of accuracy as its associated dimensions.

This is one thing that really annoys me. MDT has no prob doing this. But SE, I suppose, DOES have a lot of good features I enjoy using. I can't help that this annoys me - it just does!

PS: Yes, this is not about dependent parts - which are automatically aligned along one axis. But of course, I'd like to be able to snap to the other...

PPS: Is there a forum on Eng Tips to discuss printer hardware?

I also like to have things like notes and baloons in line because it makes the drawing look neater, and for this I use the 'line up text' command.
However locating drawing views to a grid I think is totally irrelevant, but that's just my opinion.
Just use the move command and you should be able to locate a given point on the grid.

Ah!

From reading what you've said, I figured out how to do it. Yes, select the Move command, select the view, then select a point on the drawing (usually the centre) using the intelli features, and then that will snap to the grid.

Excellent,

Anthony
