Temperature transition.

Temperature transition.

Temperature transition.

(OP)
If I took  a  5 gallon bucket of ice with a core temp of 0 degrees Fahrenheit and moved it to a room with a  temperature of 36F how long would it take for the core to warm to 36F?

Is there a equation/rule of thumb/website you could direct me to?

Thanks

RE: Temperature transition.

Not easily solved.  What are the bucket dimensions?  How big is the room?  What is the floor made of?  What is the humidity? What are the walls made of? How is the temperature maintained at 36 degrees?  Is there any air movement? You solution will depend on how complicated you make it.

You will solve this quicker by putting a thermocouple into the ice and measuring the temperature change.

RE: Temperature transition.

Data loggers are cheap, buckets are cheap, ice is cheap and I bet you own a refrigerator capable of maintaining 36f. Run an experiment and tell us your results.type/temp/quality of ice, water/ice ratio, and surface area to mass are all important factors.

RE: Temperature transition.

It is a unique property of ice/water that the temperature of the bucket will not rise more than a few degrees above freezing until all the ice is melted. The melting rate will be very strongly dependent on air velocity in your case. I would guess about 24 to 48 hours.
