Could anyone please suggest a good and user friendly software for designing flare and vent systems and also for blowdown analysis?
I am aware of FLARENET (Aspen Flare System Analyzer), but looking for other options.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Softwares for Flare and vent system design

There are several packages on the market for transient flow analysis for gasses. These will do fine with flare systems - even though they do not aim specifically for flare systems.

One such package is Flowmaster, another is Pipenet and so forth.

The vary in price and ease of use - but i think they will be cheaper than a complete HYSYS/Flarenet instalation.

However, you may want to look for a consultant if its a one-off job.

Best regards

Morten

Thanks for the reply.

I currently use PIPENET Spray/Sprinkler module for firewater network hydraulics and is very user friendly.
However, as you mentioned when I checked on their website it is not mentioned that their transient module can be used for flare sizing. Have you used PIPENET for flare sizing. If so, would I require to buy transient module or standard module for this?

Thank you.

chemiind, well, of course I would recommend Korf Hydraulics (www.korf.co.uk), considering I am involved with it.

RE: Softwares for Flare and vent system design

I havnt used pipenet myself - however wether you use SS or transient - i would say that depends on the nature of the task:

- A new plant/flare: SS Defenately - save the transient for a rainy day

-Transient for debottlenecking an existing flare where extra capacity is needed.

Best regards

Morten,

Thanks for the reply.
I have looked into various soft wares Visualflow, flowmaster etc., and Pipenet SS Module is the cheapest among all.
I guess I am going to go with PIPENET.

Thanks again.
