Exploded views in drafting

Exploded views in drafting

Exploded views in drafting

(OP)
Please excuse me if this is a really simple question but I have been struggling with this all day:

I would like to do a drawing of an assembly containing 3 parts  I would like to draw 1 view with all 3 parts together and another with 2 of the parts omitted.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Forgot to mention this is in NX4

RE: Exploded views in drafting

You have multiple methods.
1) Use an exploded view and hide the components you don't want to see.
2) Use layers and Visible-in-View to turn the layers off in the drawing view.

RE: Exploded views in drafting

if you do an exploded view,it works best if you rename the view before you explode it so that your canned views stay as is ... then import that renamed view into the drawing.

... or you can Edit --> View --> View Dependant Edit --> Erase, setting the selection filter to component or solid.

I prefer the visible-in-view method myself, but there are several methods, depending on your particular requirements.

I would also highly suggest "Visible in View" method.  Very simple, effective and fast.

RE: Exploded views in drafting

Some of this commentary seems confusing to me. Put aside the fact of whether you want to use an exploded view or not. Then as long as you're using components that you wish to have visible is certain views or not then the preferred method would easily be to use the function that hides or shows different components in different views. That is to be found under Assemblies>Context Control>Hide Component. There is also a Show Component function to compliment undoing whatever you just hid.

In out of the box installations you'll actually find the icons for those functions on the explode view toolbar. Perhaps that seems confusing, but you don't require an exploded view for them to be applied. They'll work on any view whether it is exploded or not. For first time users if indeed you don't find the use of these functions completely intuitive and self explanatory then hit F1 for the help files.
