Supports in tunnels

(OP)
refering the post in thread274-164288: Permanent and Initial Ground Support for Tunnel Excavation,

1) How to determine size of the rock dowels, eg Y25, or Y32?

You have to start from some dia of rock dowels, determine the capacity and install the dowels in your numerical models. You have to see how much support pressure does the dowels provide to get your desired effects in the model.

(2) The thickness of lining suggested by the chart can be interpreted as total thickness of permanent lining + initial lining?

probably this is the thickness of final lining, initial lining as shotcrete depennds on the extent of excavations, soil/rock type and in-situ stress conditions existing.

(3) Any suggested design guilde for drill & blast rock tunnel?

Refer the book 'Support of Underground Excavations in Hard Rocks by Hoek, Kaiser, Bawden'

Thanks a lot
Debasis
