What thread for a 23000 psi pressure gauge?

What thread for a 23000 psi pressure gauge?

What thread for a 23000 psi pressure gauge?

(OP)
Gents

I am about to order a new pressure gauge for our hydrailc bolt stretching tool.

The thread is 14 TPI
OD 0.82" (20.9mm)
but at the end there is a smaller cylindrical bit with an o-ring around it measuring:
OD 0.23" (6.0mm)
Length 0.19" (4.8 mm)

This to me is an G 1/2" or 1/2" BSPP, but how do I specify it to get the cylindrical part with the O-ring at the bottom. (see file attached)

This is very high pressure and I don't want to get it wrong.

Regards,

Rigpig

Why not ask the guage manufacturer.

RE: What thread for a 23000 psi pressure gauge?

24000 psi is about 75% of the yield strength of mild steel. Food for thought.

RE: What thread for a 23000 psi pressure gauge?

Hi Swedish.  For pressures that high, I've always used cone and thread fittings.  I've had a lot of success with Butech and Newport Scientific.

Newport scientific took over for Aminco who I believe made the original cone and thread style fittings.

There are other manufacturers that I've not used so I can't vouch for them.

RE: What thread for a 23000 psi pressure gauge?

Are you sure the thread isn't part of a quick-coupling like one of the HNCP-xxx series?

It is not a quick connection. I see that the photo I uploaded is not so good, but it is threaded 14 TPI with a boss with an O-ring at the end.

I have seen this on pressure gauges before, but do not know what it is called.

RE: What thread for a 23000 psi pressure gauge?

I used the description of quick connect rather loosely. I should have used screw connection of the Enerpac type.

Checkout these gauges the connection is listed as G-1/2".  CEJN  might be one avenue to approach your problem.

Here are two types of O-ring seals for hydraulic fittings you might want to check out.

Just an observation:
We have 8 different tensioning devices as well a number of heavy hydraulic jacks and none have an operating hydraulic pressure of greater than 10.000 psig.

Just a question :
Does your gage indicate system pressure or tension on the fastener?

RE: What thread for a 23000 psi pressure gauge?

Check with the manufacturer of the equipment in question. This sounds like a Std. Hydraulic o-ring fitting and they should be able to supply them or give you the name of a manufacturer who can. Just a few manu'f.: Rexroth, Parker, Swagelok, etc.

This is the answer I got from my boss:

'½" BSPP Gauge Connection, Bottom Entry (all BSPP gauge connections come with the spigot)'

Was it really that easy?

RE: What thread for a 23000 psi pressure gauge?

Sometimes they are, Sometimes not, with not being the norm.

Glad you resolved your issue. All you have to do now is get a new gauge.
